THE SEAGULL

by Anton Chekhov, adapted by Anya Reiss

Salisbury University’s Bobbi Biron Theatre Program

Description: In Anya Reiss's modern and biting adaptation The Seagull, the characters yearn for fame, love, and the elusive chance to rewrite their histories in Chekhov's darkly comic masterpiece. In this production, we explored the liminal qualities of Chekhov’s world—the unsettling feeling he conjures of always being between moments, relationships, identities, and places. Liminality was centralized in every aspect of the design and blocking. Are we inside or outdoors? Is this in the past or present? How is gender expression liminal?
